The Abbotsford Falcons boys basketball team ran into a red-hot Edgar Wildcats squad on Thursday. No matter where Edgar was on the floor when they shot the ball, it just seemed to rattle the iron for quick points.

The Falcons only allowed Edgar to shoot four free throws all game long, but the ‘Cats took it in stride, knocking down 13 of 23 attempts from beyond the arc.

Edgar shoot over 60 percent from the floor, converting on 32 of 53 field goal attempts as the ‘Cats cruised by the Falcons for a 47-19 advantage after one half of play. Everet Brehm paced Edgar with 18 points on seven of eight shooting, followed by Brett Baumgartner’s 15 points and Leyton Schuett, who finished with 14 points on six of nine shooting.

The Falcons could not seem to get anything to fall their way on Thursday, and things did not improve in the second half. Edgar put the clamps on Abby’s offense, and the Falcons managed just 12 points in the last stanza.

Edgar continued to click on offense, rattling off 32 points in the second half for a 79-31 victory. Adam Diedrich was the closest Falcon to double digits, scoring eight points. Brandon Diedrich and Esteban Gomez added seven and six.

Blake Bargender had four, JV Castillo picked up three points, and Brandon Hawkey had two points. Jacob Hirsch rounded things out with one point.

The Falcons Monday night road game with the Owen-Withee Blackhawks was postponed. The make up date for the game against Owen-Withee will be Monday, Feb. 7. The game will now be held in Abbotsford. There will be a JV game starting at 5:45 p.m. and a varsity game to follow at 7:15 p.m.

The Falcons next game will be on the road for a non-conference meeting with the Loyal Greyhounds on Thursday, weather permitting. Tip-off for the varsity game will be at 7:15 p.m.
