In Wisconsin Dells for a second twoday event in as many weeks, the Medford golf team compiled a team score of 363 on Tuesday to take eighth out of nine teams in day one of the Mosinee Invitational, held at Wild Rock Golf Club.

Medford easily outscored Wittenberg-Birnamwood (414) in the round. Brookfield East edged Mosinee 337-339 and Northland Pines was three strokes behind in Tuesday’s round on the par-72, 6,408-yard course.

Lakeland and Prentice tied for fourth place with scores of 343. Rhinelander shot a 346 to take sixth ahead of Platteville (355).

Medford’s Zach Hintz tied Prentice’s Eliah Harding for 11th place out of 45 varsity golfers with a score of 83. Hintz started his round with a birdie on the par-3, 147-yard ninth hole. He also birdied the par-4, 408-yard 13th.

Grant Neubauer continued his solid start as Medford’s number-two golfer. After getting off to a rough start on hole eight, he shot a 14over-par 86 that included birdies on the par-4 17th hole and on the par-5, 519yard sixth hole.

Cooper Klingbeil shot a 96 for Medford, Alex Wanke parred five holes in his round of 98 and Fletcher Frombach added a 112.

Cole Herbst of Platteville was the day’s top scorer with a 2-over-par 74. He was three strokes ahead of Lakeland’s Jeremy Hensen. A couple of GNC representatives tied for third with Mosinee’s Alex Steppke and Samuel Shrock of Northland Pines shooting 79s. Trey Noll of Brookfield East shot an 80 to place fifth.

In the JV meet, Medford outscored Mosinee 394-408. The Raiders were led by Jason Woller’s 91, which was good for fifth place out of 23 golfers. Fischer Thums (93) and Evan Fechhelm (98) also broke 100.

After finishing up with round two at Wild Rock Wednesday, Medford will host its annual invitational today, Thursday, at Black River Golf Course. The meet is set to start at noon and will include Lakeland, Mosinee and Rhinelander from the GNC as well as Prentice, Hurley, Marathon, Newman Catholic and Phillips.

From there, Medford is off to Hartland Arrowhead’s MACC Fund Invitational fundraising meet. The Raiders will play in day two of the event Saturday at The Club at Lac LaBelle in Oconomowoc. Medford will then play The Bull of Pinehurst Farms Golf Course Wednesday for the Sheboygan Falls Invitational.

Great Northern Conference competition then begins at Mosinee on May 1 and Tomahawk on May 2.
