Loyal American Legion Auxiliary meets, discusses upcoming events

The April 8 meeting called to order by President Jackie Rowley at 7:30 p.m. The meeting opened with prayer, a moment of silence for the deceased members, the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble.

Guest Mary Jo Mayer was introduced. April birthdays were Shirley Weyer and Bob Hannum. The roll call was taken, with 14 members present.

The secretary’s report was read by Jodi Lindner and approved as read. The treasurer’s report was read by Norma Wentzel and approved.

The sunshine report was as follows: A sympathy card was sent to Alice Kennedy’s granddaughter, and the group received a thank you card from Tami Cook for being nominated Auxiliary Member of the Year.

Rowley thanked all members who volunteered in March for the fish fry, steak feed, bingo, and chamber banquet, including Elena Hurrell and Julie Milz, who helped at the April 11 fish fry; Norma Wentzel and Cook, who helped at the April 21 steak feed; and junior members Kessa and Kindyn Fitzl, who helped at the April 18 fish fry. There will be a women’s conference May 3; women attending the conference will help.

The Legion Auxiliary will be hosting In The KNOW, a rock n’ roll band from southeastern Wisconsin, on Oct. 14.

The Camp American Legion 100th year celebration will be June 14 at the camp in Tomahawk. The Legion Family Summer Convention will be July 17 in Green Bay.

The district fundraiser will be held in Bangor on May 17. The group discussed making a donation. Gladys Zuehlke made a motion to make a donation of $50, seconded by Donna Langfeldt. The motion carried.

The county meeting will be April 15 in Neillsville at 6:30 p.m. The 50th birthday celebration of the Legion building is coming up on April 26, starting at 5 p.m. Everyone is asked to make bars or cookies. Milz, Cook, Sharon Rogers, and Kris Schultz will make raffle baskets. Rogers and Shirley Olson will sell tickets at the door.

No bills were submitted. The Auxiliary made $62 on the re-gifting raffle. The next meeting will be May 13. Langfeldt offered the closing prayer. Prayers were requested for Dan Mildebrandt, stationed in Somalia.
