Gov. Evers approves resurfacing Hwy. 29, 73
Construction on 73 scheduled to start Friday; Hwy. 29 scheduled for Monday
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers recently approved two construction projects in Clark County. He signed an $8.29 million contract with prime contractorAmericanAsphalt of Wisconsin of Mosinee for a resurfacing project on Wisconsin Highway 73 (WIS 73) from the Rock Creek Bridge in Greenwood to Wisconsin Highway 29 (WIS 29) south of Withee. Construction is scheduled to start this Friday, April 25, weather dependent.
He also signed a $23.74 million contract with prime contractor Mathy Construction Co. of Onalaska for a resurfacing project on WIS 29 from Koser Avenue west of Thorp to County D in Owen. Construction is scheduled to start this Monday, April 28; again, the start is weather dependent.
Highway 73 project The pavement on this segment of WIS 73 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is planning to do the following from: Rock Creek Bridge to West Hunt Street in Greenwood:
•Remove 3.25 inches of existing asphalt and place 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement
•Replace curb ramps and make spot curb and gutter repairs
•Replace guardrail
•Place pavement markings West Hunt Street north to WIS 29 East:
•Remove 3.25 inches of the existing pavement and place 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement
•Replace cattle passes no longer in use with culvert pipes
•Extend a box culvert north of Greenwood and replace the structure's wing walls
•Overlay the Popple River Bridge deck with concrete, repair the concrete surface on the bridge abutments, replace two wing walls, and repair scour
•Clean or replace culverts
•Clean ditches
•Replace or adjust guardrail WIS 73 will remain open to traffic during construction, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by temporary signals for work on the Popple River Bridge and single-lane closures controlled by flagging for the remaining work.
Construction is scheduled for completion in September.
