Merchants’ baseball night planned for Aug. 7

Merchants’ night is being planned at the Athletic Park in Abbotsford, for Saturday night, Aug. 7. The Greenwood Merchants, champions in the Cloverbelt League, will play the Abbotsford Athletics, of the Wisconsin Valley League, in a game at 8:15 p.m.

Preparations being made for guards going to camp

The men of the 173rd F. A. Bn., of the Wisconsin National Guard are getting ready for a two week encampment at Camp McCoy, fromAug. 8 to 22, and have had their shots for tetanus, small pox and typhoid.

Cherokee Chums to observe 50th year

The Cherokee Chums 4-H Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary, August 18, by holding a reunion of the over 500 past and present members. The club was started in 1924 and has continued for 50 years.

Abby’s Pee Wees play eight games

Abby’s PeeWees saw plenty of action last week as they played a total of eight games. In interleague action, the Rompers and Half Pints split two tight games. Don Kieser and Dave Uhlig led the Rompers with three hits each while Jeff Grambort had four for the Pints.

Lynette Will elected to state youth board

Lynette Will, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Ralph Will, Rt. 2, Colby, is one of the seven young people elected to the Wisconsin electric cooperative youth congress in River Falls, July 11.

Rural properties in the Towns of Holton and Johnson were pummeled by either high winds or a skipping tornado in the early morning of July 26. The destructive winds rampaged roughly along Draper Road shortly after midnight Sunday night.

USDA is mailing milk market reform ballots

The USDA has begun mailing ballots in a milk marketing order reform referendum, but expect cooperative bloc voting, not individual dairy farmer votes, to decide the question for the Upper Midwest.

Colby loses two close matches

In a double header against Stanley-Boyd last Thursday, the Colby Girls Senior Fast Pitch team dropped both games by the final scores of 7 to 6 and 18 to 13.
