Jury duty may be one of the glorious privileges accorded to the free-born American citizen, and it is also possible that there are people who enjoy the weighty responsibilities connected there with. As for me I am not looking for that particular kind of job and the next time the chief-of-police calls on me with his persuasive smile and interrupts my dictionary study there is very apt to be serious trouble.

July 17, 1924 County Fair Buildings Going Forward Rapidly For Biggest Fair Ever

Work at the Taylor County Fair Grounds has been started in earnest this week.

All of the new buildings planned for the grounds will be well underway this week if our present weather continues.

G.E. McCaustland has a crew working on the Merchants and Manufacturers’ Building, which is to be an entirely new feature. It is being built entirely at the expense of the merchants and manufacturers of Taylor County who desire space in same. It will prove to be one of the most popular and most crowded buildings at the fair grounds when the fair is on this fall.

July 14, 1949 Hurds Begin Rebuilding Millwork Plant Company Will Use Own Labor In Construction

Although a final decision has not been reached as to the type of construction that will be used, the rebuilding of the Hurd Millwork plant was started this week when preparations were made for the pouring of the concrete footings and foundation walls. It is anticipated that the concrete for this part of the structure will be poured before the close of the week. A major portion of the plant was destroyed by fire on Sunday, May 1.

July 18, 1974 TRIPLETS BORN…

Triplet heifer calves were born July 2 on the Louis Kasparek farm, town of Browning, the dam a purebred Holstein called Sam-Dale Harriet Falcon Prince. The cow was purchased from the Merle Samplawski herd in the town of Taft.

With just two of 17 supervisors voting against it, the Taylor County Board last week approved giving $30,000 to Black River Industries (BRI) to help equip a new facility BRI is building in Medford’s Industrial Park.

The Frances L. Simek Memorial Library in Medford wrapped up its annual summer reading program this week with a presentation, by Medford Area Elementary School teacher Nancy Hemmer, which combined science and reading.
