At a meeting of the village board Tuesday evening, bids were opened for the curb and gutter project being planned for village streets. The bids ranged from a low of $1.48 to $1.90.

Frank Nikolay to practice before military court

Frank L. Nikolay, Abbotsford, Democratic candidate for state attorney general, Thursday will be admitted to practice before the United States court of military appeals in Washington, D.C. The court is the highest appellate military court in the country.

Colby may terminate street contract

The Colby City Council at its meeting Tuesday night agreed City Attorney Gerald Connally should write a letter warning of intent to terminate the contract of Merrill Gravel and Construction Co., The contractor hired for the current street project on Third Street.

Six meetings have been scheduled throughout the state in late July and early August to brief you on the mandatory heating oil rationing program which is currently part of the Federal Mandatory Petroleum Allocation Act.

Abby tops Hannibal

Abby beat Hannibal in a very close game Sunday 6-5 in 13 innings. The game was close all the way with Abbotsford scoring two runs in the ninth inning, to send the game into extra innings. Larry Soyk got the win in relief as he pitched two and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball.

The latest conflict between the two has arisen over a press release in which Rep. Schneider slammed Suder for what he called a “partisan cheap shot.” The remarks came as politicians attempt to pass the state budget.

Area musician heading to Europe

Brandi Abegglen will travel to Europe this summer as a member of the United States Collegiate Wind Band during the month of July. She and other band members will gather in New Jersey for four days of practice, then fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Monster Hall hosts truck and tractor pulls

Area truck and tractor pull enthusiasts came out to Monster Hall July 3 and 4 to see some of the area’s most powerful machines compete. Classes included semi tractors, four wheel ATV, modified lawn tractors, trucks and modified field tractors.
