The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office has now identified the Clark County Sheriff’s Office sergeant charged with sexual exploitation of a child and child enticement, among other charges. The suspect is 38year-old Jeremy D. Chapman of Spencer, according to a press release issued June 19 by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office. The initial press release issued June 13 did not give a name.

Chapman was arrested in Spencer on June 12 on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, child enticement, threats to injure or accuse of a crime, and threats to communicate derogatory information. He was given a bond hearing and posted bond.

The arrest report indicates that the investigation began in January. The victim, a high school student, said they were black-mailed into sending nude images to an unknown person via Snapchat. According to the arrest report, the then-unknown person also tried to get the victim to go into the locker room, and told the victim he raped another student there. Officials used IP addresses and geolocation data to determine messages to the victim were sent from places in Spencer and from Loyal City Hall. Online court records do not yet show Chapman being formally charged with a crime.
