Voss announces 69th Assembly candidacy
Lori Voss, owner of Hawkeye Dairy in Abbotsford and an EMT with the Central Fire and EMS District has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 69th Assembly District. Voss’s most recent venture into politics isn’t her first stint in government.
Voss served as the Abbotsford mayor from 2017-2021 and has amassed 42 years of public service as both mayor and a member of the Abbotsford City Council.
In the candidacy announcement, “Taxpayers for Voss” said Voss, “has a rock-solid commitment to upholding conservative principles including limited government, putting taxpayers first, protecting the unborn and defending our constitutionally protected freedoms.”
As a small business owner, Voss has owned and operated Hawkeye Dairy Store in Abbotsford for 28 years, purchasing the business from Dave Hawks in 1996.
Voss has also worked as an EMT with Central Fire & EMS for the past 14 years, serving as assistant chief of the Abbotsford Ambulance Division for a period of time.
In her announcement, Voss said she has a proven track record of dedication to her community, serving our nation, fighting for taxpayers and standing up for individual liberties.
“My promise to voters is to work to restore common sense to government by supporting law enforcement, standing up against woke radical ideologies, protecting the unborn, closing our open borders and getting government out of the way of economic development,” said Voss.
Voss also mentioned her upbringing on a local farm and her service as a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard when talking about her work ethic and her beliefs.
“Growing up on a local dairy farm taught me the importance of a strong work ethic and family values. As a small business owner, I also know first-hand what it takes to make a payroll and create jobs.”
“I have always stood for the Stars and Stripes, kneeled for the cross and I will always carry these values forward as our area’s voice in Madison. I love rural Wisconsin and have lived here all my life, raised my children here and now am asking for your vote to bring my experience and the values we share to Madison.” Voss said in the release that she is a strong advocate for limited government, fiscal responsibility and individual liberty. She is dedicated to representing the values and interests of the residents of the 69th Assembly District she’s called friends and neighbors for nearly her whole life.
The release also stated, “Voss turned in 300-plus signatures from local voters who are backing her campaign for the Assembly and she and her grassroots team will be out in the communities of the 69th District campaigning hard to win the support of the people she hopes to represent.”
Voss will be going up against fellow Republican candidate Karen Hurd who has moved to rural Thorp in order to serve the newly-shaped 69th Assembly District. Hurd has been attending local city and village council meetings to give them an idea what she believes in. Hurd has been very vocal about mental health, childhood obesity and preparing local governments better for refugee placements.
Incumbent Donna Rozar has chosen to stay in Marshfield and challenge John Spiros for the 85th Assembly seat.
The primary election will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 13. More information will be printed in the Tribune Record Gleaner about both candidates closer to the election date.
