June 10, 1899 Otto Zueleger
The grim reaper, Death, has again claimed one of Medford’s old and highly respected citizens, and the community is robbed of an upright and honest man, while a devoted family are left to mourn the loss of one of the members loved so well.
Mr. Zueleger was born in Neukirchen, Prussia and came to America in the year 1871, first settling in Manitowoc county, this state. In 1879 he came to Medford and for the past twenty years has made this place his home. He was one of the early pioneers and has watched and helped the growth of his home county, the first with pleasure and the latter with tireless energy.
100 Years Ago June 12, 1924 Medford Creamery Is Approaching Thousand Patron Mark, Now 917
Medford Co-operative Creamery is approaching the thousand patron mark this summer. Although the starting of the Rib Lake creamery took away about thirty patrons, whose interest lay with the new sister creamery at that village, the number of patrons of the Medford creamery has increased steadily. The present number is 917.
75 Years Ago June 9, 1949 Frank Diesing Buys Medford Marble Works
A business deal, which has been pending for several weeks, was consummated last week when Frank Diesing purchased the Medford Marble & Granite Works business and the home of Mrs. Joe Metzler on Whelen Ave.
The business was started by Frank Bary, and 21 years ago he sold to Metzler and A.P. Weiske. The partnership continued for a year and Weiske then sold his interest to Metzler. Since the later’s death the business has been operated by Mrs. Metzler.
50 Years Ago June 13, 1974 16th Annual Dorchester Days To Begin Today; End Sunday
Final plans have been completed for the 16th annual Dorchester days starting today, Thursday, and ending Sunday. Sponsors of the celebration include the volunteer fire department and its auxiliary, American Legion post and its auxiliary and the Lions Club. Donovan Robida is serving as general chairman, assisted by Ronald Robida.
June 9, 1999 Hurd Company factory workers back on the job 25 Years Ago Factory workers at the Hurd Millwork plant in Medford voted last Saturday to end a three-weeklong strike.
The vote by nearly 400 members of Local 1025 was 196 to 134.
An earlier vote taken two weeks ago to go back to work was defeated 286-58.
The workers went on strike on Sunday, May 16, primarily over the company’s pension plan, which Union Local President Dave Christofoli said at the time was “ridiculous.”
The union was also at odds with company management over wages and benefits and insurance.
10 Years Ago June 12, 2014 Raiders’ regional run ends with 10-run inning
On the verge of pulling off a third straight post-season road win, things abruptly fell apart for Medford’s baseball team in the bottom of the fourth Friday when Mosinee scored 10 runs to secure a 13-3, five-inning win in a WIAA Division 2 regional final.
