Dodson achieves major career milestone

Marathon senior wrestler Dylan Dodson achieved his 100th career match win at Thursday’s Tomah Quad. He won all three of his individual 138-pound matches during Marathon’s matchups against Chippewa Falls, Holmen and Tomah to make this career wrestling accomplishment happen. Dodson obtained his 100th career match win when he pinned Tomah sophomore Evan Johnson in 31 seconds.
The Red Raiders started the Tomah Quad with a 43-32 loss to the Chippewa Falls Cardinals. Marathon wrestlers gaining individual match wins were senior Jacob Smith with an 8-2 decision against Caiden O’Kelly in the 157-pound weight class, junior Alex Poppe pinning Eli Swope in two minutes, 34 seconds at 285 pounds; sophomore Blake Underwood pinning Fischer Smith in 49 seconds at 106 pounds; sophomore Cale Quaintance pinning Uriah Bowe in 39 seconds at 120 pounds and Dodson pinning Chase Fredrick in 1:18 at 138 pounds.
Marathon then beat the Holmen Vikings, 41-30. Red Raiders grapplers gaining match wins were sophomore Tate Sonnentag with a 7-4 decision against Colin Griffin at 150 pounds, sophomore Reed McCain with an 11-3 major decision against Nathan Snodgrass at 165 pounds, sophomore Grant Salber pinning Deandre Washington in 1:50 at 175 pounds, freshman Jace Ostrowski with a forfeit at 190 pounds, Underwood pinning Ryu Xiong in 1:09 at 106 pounds, Quaintance with a 4-0 decision against Kaleb Runde at 120 pounds, junior Levi Krautkramer with a 13-2 major decision against Ryder Mathison at 126 pounds, sophomore Swayne Stencil with a 10-3 decision against Camden Thiele at 132 pounds and Dodson pinning Quentin Hendricks in 5:05 at 138 pounds.
The Red Raiders defeated the Tomah Timberwolves, 47-28, to conclude the Tomah Quad. Marathon wrestlers gaining wins were McCain pinning Chance Peterson in 3:16 at 165 pounds, Salber pinning Haakon Garvin in 5:16 at 175 pounds, Ostrowski pinned Jeron Hericks in 3:09 at 215 pounds, Underwood pinned Cale Ollendick in 54 seconds at 106 pounds, Quaintance won a 17-8 major decision against Austin Gray at 120 pounds, Krautkramer won a 12-5 decision against Jacob Van Hoof at 126 pounds, Stencil pinned Payton Smith in 2:22 at 132 pounds, Dodson pinned Evan Johnson in 31 seconds at 138 pounds and Sonnentag won a 13-3 major decision against Xavien Wilson at 150 pounds.

The Athens, Edgar, Marathon and Stratford wrestling teams will compete in the WIAA Division 3 regional at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Feb. 10, in Auburndale. The top two teams that finish the Auburndale regional and the top two teams in the Ladysmith regional will advance to the team sectional at 6 p.m. this Tuesday, Feb. 13, in Cadott.
