Curtiss bank robbed by pair Tuesday afternoon
Two unmasked gunmen stole $18,518.00 from Curtiss State Bank, escaping north on Highway E in a vehicle with no license plates. Officers from the Clark county sheriff’s office were joined by FBI forces out of Milwaukee for the investigation.
Deer season postponed
Governor Walter Kohler pushed back the normal gun deer season to run from Nov. 28 to Dec. 4 due to extremely dry conditions of Wisconsin forests.

Abby and Colby schools examine how to combat fuel shortage
In view of an energy crisis, both school boards examined how to cope with a fuel shortage. Lowering building thermostats during and after school, reducing max speeds of school vehicles, and conservation of electricity usage by lessening utilization of lights were all steps to be taken to help.
Fifty-seven Colby youth complete hunter safety course
The Division of Conservation and Colby High School awarded 57 students ages 12-16 their shoulder patches and certificates earned after completing the Wisconsin hunter safety course hosted by the two entities.
Cinderella and coach added to parade units
The fairy tale princess Cinderella and her pumpkin carriage pulled by six live ponies will now be part of the growing ensemble of characters featured at the annual Abbotsford Christmas Parade.

Marathon county board holds the line on tax rate
The $6.21 per thousand tax rate in the county remained the same for the fifth straight year after the county board of supervisors met for the regular monthly meeting, rebuffing efforts from Wausau supervisor Jim Schaefer’s efforts to slash county taxes.
CMS students, staff raise funds for Nicaragua
A “penny war” between CMS sixth graders raised over $500 to be sent to relief efforts in the Central American country following the devastation caused by Hurricane Mitch.
Colby school board cuts classes for Nov. 19
With 80 percent of CHS students and staff stating that they were planning to attend the state football game, the board voted 5-2 to call off classes for the day and agreed that the day would not be made up.
