The Human Services Board decided to fill a vacant position within its current framework Wednesday rather than seek a merger with the Commission on Aging. Board members asked the personnel committee to fill the long-term support coordinator position at Human Services and continue the search for the new director of the Commission on Aging with the retirement of Diane Niggeman.

November 11, 1998 Johnston shows stuff in County’s DA Election

Mara Johnston and Don Wright emerged winners in last week’s election in Taylor County.

Johnston defeated John Hansen in the district attorney’s race, while Wright was a winner over Don Everhard by a two to one margin.

Johnston and Wright both ran as Democrats.

November 8, 1973 Pizza Plant Formal Opening Sunday

Tombstone Pizza Corp., Medford, will mark another milestone for a mushrooming enterprise which began in a kitchen of a beer bar only 13 years ago. An open house at the new sprawling plant in Medford’s industrial park Sunday will follow a formal flag raising ceremony, which will begin at 10:30 a.m.

November 18, 1948 Weinbrenner Leases Rib Lake Shoe Factory

O.R. Thompson, president of Lakeland Shoes, Inc., announced this week that the corporation’s shoe factory at Rib Lake has been leased by the Weinbrenner Shoe Co., and that present plans call for the manufacture of men’s shoes by the first of the year.

Announcement of the contract brings to a conclusion negotiations that the directors of the corporation have been carrying on for several months with shoe manufacturing concerns.

November 15, 1923 All Three of Taylor State Roads Approved

All three of the roads in Taylor County which were proposed by Taylor County people to become part of the state highway system were approved by the Special Legislative Layout committee and the Wisconsin Highway Commission.

This means that three more pieces of road in Taylor County will become marked and patroled under the supervision of the state commission. They are: State Highway 113 North, 97 through Athens, and on C through Rib Lake.

November 12, 1898 Taylor Crooked

The vote in Taylor County surprised the shrewdest guesser and tipped over the splendid Republican vote given two years ago. There are any number of reasons that have been advanced for this outcome. But the one that is certainly logical is that people voted the Democratic ticket. Instead of 600 or 700 majority for the Republican Party we have a tie, or so nearly so that it can be placed in that light. By reference to the tabulated statement in another column it will be seen that the Democratic state ticket received a few more votes than did the Republicans, and that four of the local officers were elected.
