Charles Lang


Charles L. “Carly” and “Bonus Daddy” Lang, 95, a resident in the Town of Cassel, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023 at The Gardens in Wausau under hospice care from Interim Healthcare.
Charles was born to Joe and Elsie (Dalsky) Lang on November 4, 1927, in Wisconsin. Growing up he attended a country school and St. Mary’s Parochial School in Marathon City. On September 3, 1949, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Boehm at St. Mary’s. She passed away on November 22, 1997. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm in Town of Cassel. He was also employed by Marathon Electric. He later married Georgene Hasko on July 6, 2002, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Wausau. She passed away on April 22, 2010.
He was a longtime member of Nativity of BlessedVirgin Mary Catholic Church in Marathon City, past president of its Holy Name Society and a member of St. Mary’s Hospitality Ministry. Charles had served as Vice Chief Ranger for over 60 years in the Catholic Order of Foresters.
His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, jigsaw puzzles and playing Bingo and card games like Sheepshead and a favorite board game called Wahoo.
Those who will cherish his memory are his children: Allen (Judy) Lang, Dennis (Shirley) Lang, Charlie (Dottie) Lang and Jane (John) Yde; his grandchildren: Sara (Mark) Matyka, Jason (Kris) Lang, Rachel Lang, Tami Jo (Larry) Mroczenski, Shannon (Russ) Thorn, Amanda (Alex) Gueldenzopf, Brad (Tristen) Lang, Rebecca (Chad) Donnay and Daniel (Nicole) Yde; his greatgrandchildren: Kyle (Savannah) Matyka, Cody (Claire) Matyka, Jacob, Tyler and Amber Matyka, Katlynn, Jake, Alexa and Mason Mroczenski, Alex and Timmy Lang, Cole and Bryce Gueldenzopf, Brielle and Braxon Lang, Braylee and Jaxton Donnay and Jameson and Charliegh Yde; his sister, Marcella (Ray) Dabrowski and his bonus family: Randall Hasko, Barbara (Terry) Meeker, Vicky (Juliette Farrar) Hasko, Cynthia (Casey Jones) Wittke and Lisa Stuart, along with many bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rose; his second wife, Georgene; his siblings: Oscar (Vernetta) Lang, Alois (Mildred) Lang, Victor (Julia) Lang, Norbert (Frances) Lang, Leona (Robert) Corda, Agnes (Ernie) Murrey, Irene (Leonard) Semski, Raymond (Mildred) Lang and Theresa Lang, and bonus family PFC Ronald Hasko, Gregory Wittke and David Stuart.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Marathon City with Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier presiding. Following the Mass, he was laid to rest in the parish cemetery. Family and friends were invited to gather at the church for a time of visitation on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The honor of pallbearer belonged to: Jason Lang, Brad Lang, Dan Yde, Kyle Matyka, Jake Mroczenski and Rachel Lang.
If desired, memorials in Charles’ name may be directed to Saint Mary’s Parochial School per his own request.
