A side of Kraut

I have become accustomed to taking my girlfriend Amy and two daughters to the annual Jesus sale during the last weekend of October at the Athens Assembly of God church each year.
The free Jesus sale is basically a large rummage sale with children’s, women’s and men’s clothing, jackets, shoes and other household items. The Jesus sale was held on Saturday and Sunday of last weekend.
I enjoyed chatting with Assembly of God pastor Craig Diedrich again at the Jesus sale. We went to the Jesus sale at the church on Sunday afternoon and Diedrich was dressed as Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. I believe the church provided hot chocolate to village of Athens trick-or-treaters.
There of course was lots of Athens Bluejays apparel available at the Jesus sale, but I couldn’t take any of these items because I need to remain neutral in covering the Athens, Edgar, Marathon and Stratford high school sports teams for The Record-Review. You might see me wearing a certain color of a team if it is playing against an opponent not in the newspaper’s coverage area, but you’ll never see me wearing apparel with either the Athens, Edgar, Marathon or Stratford name on it.
I’m just very appreciative that the Athens Assembly of God has an annual Jesus sale to help out the area community. There are always people who don’t have the financial means to buy their children clothes or warm jackets in preparation for winter.

I’ve heard a rumor that the Auburndale football players on last year’s team told Stratford’s football players they would’ve beaten them had the two teams faced each other in the Division 6 playoffs.
Auburndale lost, 20-7, to Mondovi in the Level 3 playoffs last season. Stratford beat Mondovi, 32-14, in the Division 6 state championship last year.
If this rumor is indeed true, then No. 2 seed Stratford will be extra motivated to beat No. 1 seed Auburndale in Friday’s Division 6 Level 3 game in Auburndale.
Both the Edgar and Stratford football teams already feel snubbed by not being number one seeds in their respective divisions by the WIAA’s computer seeding system, but now it appears the Tigers have more motivation to beat the Eagles this week other than the WIAA simply awarding Auburndale the No. 1 seed over Stratford.
