Spencer volleyball earns three consecutive wins
The Spencer High School volleyball team capped off their regular season with a series of three wins to give them momentum to propel them into postseason play.
The girls traveled to Stanley-Boyd High School for their Cloverbelt crossover matchup on Oct. 10. Despite a less-than-ideal start, the Rockets pulled off the best-of-five win. Spencer lost the first set 25-21, but rallied back to win the next three sets, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-17.
In the Stanley-Boyd game, Alexa Stange and Hannah Reckner each had a 100-percent serving percentage, with Stange serving 16 times and Reckner 15 times with no errors. Hannah Schreiner had the next-best serving percentage, only committing one error on 20 serves for a 95-percent rating.
Reckner had the best serve-receive rating of anyone on her team who received at least 10 serves. Her rating was 2.24, meaning she made just three errors on 21 serve-receives.
Claudia Krause led the team in kills, with 11. Reckner had nine, Schreiner had seven and Carmen Krause had six. Carmen and Claudia Krause each had a solo block, and Claudia had seven block assists.
Stange led her team in digs, with 28. Alisia Bocchino led in assists, with 29.
Rib Lake triangular
The Rockets continued play on Saturday when they traveled to Rib Lake for a triangular. To speed things up, matches were played to the best of three, rather than five.
Spencer once again got things off to a slow start, losing 25-15 in their first set against Ladysmith. However, they won the second set 25-17 and the third 15-11 to take the match. Versus Rib Lake, Spencer didn’t allow the match to go to three sets but finished it in two, defeating the Redmen 25-19 and 25-15.
Over the course of the two matches, Stange again had a perfect serving percentage, putting all 15 of her serves in bounds. She also excelled on serve-receive, with only three errors on 37 serve-receive attempts.
Reckner led in kills, with 17. Claudia Krause had 10 and Schreiner had seven.
Bocchino had two solo blocks and two block assists. She also completed 37 assists. Reckner had 19 digs, while Stange had 15 and Schreiner had 13.
