Davila raising money for Children’s Hospital after being selected to WFCAAll-Star Game
By Nathaniel Underwood
Abbotsford senior Daniel Davila will have an opportunity to play in one final high school football game after being named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) All-Star Game North Small Team. Davila will be joined in Oshkosh in July by head coach Jake Knapmiller, who was selected to be on the North’s coaching staff.
The opportunity to play in the All-Star game adds to an already extensive list of accolades that Davila earned following the 2024 football season. He earned first-team All-Conference nods for his play on both the offensive and defensive lines and picked up the Lineman of the Year award for the Marawood/Central Wisconsin Small conference. He was also named to the WFCAAll-Region team both on offense and defense.
Davila was selected from a field of 101 teams in the North Small.
“We got a list as the staff of over 100 kids,” Knapmiller said. “As the offensive line coach on the team, I had to narrow 25 kids down to 10, so we had to go through film, all the measurables, what their accolades were. Every kid on the list is all-region, all-conference, a lot are all-state.”
The two-way star for Abbotsford will be playing on the North’s offensive line as a guard. Playing with and going up against the best that the state of Wisconsin has to offer is something that Davila is looking forward to.
“It’s a very special honor,” he said. “Not everyone gets to go to this game. It’s an honor to play with the best kids in the state at our level. I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s like, practicing with them, playing with them.”
As in years past, the players for the WFCAAll-Star game look to raise funds for the Wisconsin Children’s Hospital. The game raised over $300,000 last year and is trying to raise over $400,000 this year. Each individual player is asked to attempt to raise $750 themselves, but Davila has set his personal goal a bit higher at $1,000.
Working together with Knapmiller, a fundraiser competition is currently being held at the Abbotsford schools, where the home room that raises $40 towards the Children’s Hospital the fastest will earn ice cream and a free hour during school.
