Colby Community Library Hosts March Events
In addition to offering a wide selection of books, movies, and magazines, the Colby Community Library (CCL) has filled the long month of March with exciting events for all ages.
Maddie Month
In memory of Maddie Thums, library volunteer and former nurse, take-and-make kits will be available beginning Monday, March 3, throughout the month of March (until all are gone). Sew the items at home and bring them back by March 31 to be donated to the Marshfield Medical Center for youth hospital patients. Items to be sewn are comfort casket covers, reusable ice bag covers, and baby blanket/burp cloth sets. The flannel fabric will be provided by Thrivent, Creative Hideaway, and Friends of the Colby Community Library. Note: There will not be an onsite sew-a-thon this year.
Winning o’ the Green
When checking out items at the Colby Community Library (CCL) during the month of March, earn a slip to guess the amount of “green” in a special container. The guess closest, without going over, will win the jar and its monetary contents, compliments of the Friends of the Colby Community Library.
Adult Education Class
Adult education classes are held on the second Tuesday of the month. At 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, Mindful Movements Yoga, a chair assisted yoga session, will be offered. Emily Auberg, LMT at Borealis, will be teaching the class. The program is free to the public.
Tech Help
Following the yoga class on Tuesday, March 11, beginning at 2 p.m., the first Tech Help session will be hosted at the CCL. Todd Meyer from Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) will help troubleshoot and assist people on laptops, tablets or cell phones. Bring your own device if possible; otherwise, CVTC student laptops will be available for use. The program is offered in partnership with ADRC of Clark County. The tech help is free. Call the library at 715-223-2000 to register. If there is enough interest, additional Tech Help sessions will be offered. Note: As per the CCL Board of Trustees recent policy, library staff will not be able to assist with personal tech devices due to liability issues.
Book Clubs
The afternoon and evening book clubs will meet at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, to discuss “Iron Lake” by William Kent Krueger. Becky Schmelzer selected the book for March and will lead the evening discussion.

participants craft the night away Maddie Month sewing projects will also be available. Snacks and beverages are welcome.
Friends Meeting
The Friends of the Colby Community Library’s annual meeting will be held Monday, March 24. The Friends group celebrates 35 years of service since its inception in 1990. Tropical snacks begins at 5:45 p.m. and the meeting will start at 6 p.m. in the RCU Community Room at the CCL. New members are always welcome. Lifetime memberships ($50) will receive a free canvas library bag or t-shirt when signing up. If you and your family would like to support the library with time, talent or treasure, consider joining the Friends.
Immediately following the Friends meeting, beginning at 7 p.m., the public is invited to a free presentation by author Marcy West. Her book, “Protecting Paradise in the Driftless: How the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Came to Be,” is the saga of how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers removed 149 families from their property in southwest Wisconsin to construct a dam on the Kickapoo River - a dam which ultimately was never completed. West will discuss the controversy which found local communities stepping up to create a new environmental opportunity.
Story Times
Pre-school aged children and a caregiver are invited to attend story times on Friday mornings at 10 a.m. Ms. Jean includes stories, songs, dances and finger plays to promote early literacy during the 45-minute session. Join the fun on March 7, 14,21 and 28.
Youth Crafts
Stop in for free youth crafts during the month of March to take home and make. There will be projects celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, followed by spring and Easter crafts.
