seven straight points to tie the game, getting four points from Treankler and a basket courtesy of Marilyn Hammock to tie the game.
They also outscored Prentice 8-4 in the final three minutes of the half, Celia Schindler scoring six straight points for the Falcons and giving them a 21-20 lead at halftime.
Abbotsford held onto that lead for most of the opening minutes of the second period. The Buccaneers managed to tie the game at 28-28 on a pair of free throws, but a 6-2 run for the Falcons featuring a go ahead basket from Riley Podevels allowed them to go up 34-30.
Following another field goal from Podevels with 10 and a half minutes left, the Abbotsford offense went silent. They were held scoreless over the next six minutes, allowing Prentice to score nine unanswered points and retake the lead.
Schindler led the team with 10 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She also had four steals and four rebounds.
Treankler added another eight points, five steals, and the only three-point make for the Falcons and Podevels had six points and four rebounds. Azalea Atkinson added five points, Hammock had four points and a team-high five rebounds and Diaz and Soto both had three points each.
The Falcons will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 6 when they take on the Auburndale Eagles at home. The visiting Marawood-South team is currently 3-0 this season and is coming off a 52-47 win over Almond-Bancroft. The Eagles’ other two victories were not nearly as close, as they defeated Amherst 60-10 in their season opener and followed up with a 65-15 win over Newman Catholic. The varsity game has a start time of 5:30 p.m.
