Over 3,000 food items were donated to CUP Food Pantry in Colby and to Trinity Food Pantry in Unity. Sixteen displays filled the RCU Community Room at the Colby Community Library during the month of November. Over 300 patrons and visitors voted on their favorite FoodSculpture. The winners were 1st place (John Deere tractor) Colby FFA and Baumgartner Lumber; 2nd place (Noah’s Ark) BBD Sports Shop; 3rd place (dragon and knight) Nicolet Bank; and 4th place (crayon box) Colby Middle School Library. Other participating builders included Abbotsford Health Care Center, AbbyBank, Colby Senior Care, Colby Nueva Jerusalem Hispanic Seventh-Day Adventist Church, GloryCroft Fibers, Royal Credit Union, Friends of the CCL, Colonial Center, Cherokee Chums 4-H, Loos Machine and Automation, Zion Lutheran Church, and Colby Community Library. The donated food display contest will return in 2026 for its fifth year.

Lucky “7”

The Colby Community Library moved into the new building at 505 West Spence Street in December of 2017. To celebrate how fortunate the community of Colby is to have had the new library for seven years, stop in the library during the month to see if you will be the “special number” patron each day. That lucky person will select a number from our giant sized candy box to see what they will earn in cash prizes. “Life is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you’re gonna get” is the theme (patrons may win only once during the 19 day promotion).

A reminder to all who registered for the “Emergency Preparedness” seminar through the Clark County Health Department: Thursday, Dec. 5, the day begins at 10 a.m. at the Colby Community Library with a presentation on how to prepare for the unexpected. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., and the afternoon concludes with open conversation until 12:30 p.m.
