CCL to host plethora of events in December CCL to host plethora of events in December

The CCL has decked the halls and filled the shelves with holiday books, movies, magazines, and music CDs. Events are planned to make the season bright.

Take & Make Crafts

December offers a smorgasbord of “Take & Make” craft bags for our young patrons. All the kits are free. 400+ kits are prepared and offered each month by volunteers and funded by generous benefactors. There is a limit of two craft bags per child per visit this month. There will also be gnome tootsie pop treats for children.

Remember to turn in all completed “Travel the World” reading and movie passports by December 30 at 5 p.m. to be eligible for the drawing for Abby/ Colby Chamber gift certificates. In 2023, a “colorful” new CCL reading and movie challenge will be available starting Monday, January 2, 2023.

It may seem hard to believe, but the Colby Community Library has been open in its new location for five years. Join in the celebration on Thursday, December 15 from noon until 7 p.m. Play “The Big 5” game for a chance to win prizes. Visit the craft area to make items to bring cheer to residents in the local nursing homes. Enjoy refreshments served by the Friends of the CCL. At 6 p.m., Al Gurtner will be presenting an author talk on his book “A Village Called Unity” in the Community Room at the library. He will be signing books which are for sale now at the library and will be available that evening.

The dates for preschool story times in December are on Fridays: December 2, 9, and 16 at 10 a.m. There will be a holiday/winter break, with story times resuming January 13. New children are welcome. Register at the library for entertaining, educational fun.

Gifts

The Friends of the CCL have an assortment of CCL logo t-shirts, long sleeved shirts and canvas bags ready for holiday gift giving—either to those on your gift list or for yourself. The shirts are super comfy and wash beautifully. The canvas bags come in two styles, zippered or plain, and are useful beyond carrying library materials. Grab a free gift bag from the display rack for easy gifting. The Friends use the proceeds of sales to support the library’s programs.

There are still a few leaves available on the CCL Giving Tree. If you are looking for a perfect gift, purchase one for a loved one—or yourself. They range from $200-$1000 and are engraved with your choice of message. Contact the library at 715-2232000 for information.

Book Club

The CCL evening book club will meet Tuesday, December 20 at 6 p.m. The book to be discussed, led by Amy Becker, will be “The Christmas Train” by David Baldacci. Members are encouraged to bring snacks and beverages.

Craft and Hobby will meet on Friday, December 16 beginning at 4 p.m. This evening is open to adults in the community to work on crafts/hobbies. Snacks and beverages are welcome.

Holiday Hours

The CCL will be closed December 24-25 and December 31 - January 1. Current hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from noon - 7 p.m. For the winter months, the library is closed on weekends. Curbside service for people wishing not to enter the library is also available by calling the CCL at 715-223-2000 during open hours or by leaving a message if after hours.
