Abbotsford had two meets over the past week, starting with the Athens Invitational last Thursday, followed by a meet hosted by Auburndale.

Abbotsford was back at Frey Field Tuesday afternoon, this time for the Auburndale Invite. The Falcons took third of the nine teams, their 74 points behind Stratford’s 20 and Athens’ 68.

Iris Cruz had her best race to date and finished as Abbotsford’s top runner. Her time of 23:06 was a new personal best and earned her eighth place.

Brissa Diaz finished second for the Falcons and 17th overall, coming in her own new PR of 25:35. Reese Molitor came in 25th and had a final time of 26:54.

Athens Invitational

The Falcons also had a meet last week Thursday at Athens. The team took 11th out of 18 schools, finishing with a score of 262 points. Assumption took first place with 51 points. The Royals were led by Lucy Dolan, who won the race in 18:34.4. Phillips finished second overall with 82 points and Tomahawk rounded out the top three with 97 points.

Cruz crossed the finish line first for the Falcons. She finished the course in 23:08.2, which was 20 seconds faster than her previous personal best. Out of the 119 athletes in the girls’ event, Cruz finished 39th.

She was followed by Azul Diaz, who also had a career outing. She took five seconds off her prior PR to finish in 23:20.2. The sophomore came in 43rd.

Brissa Diaz cut a minute from her personal best as she finished third for the Falcons. Her time of 25:55.0 earned her 83rd place. Azalea Atkinson rounded out the PRs for the Falcons with her time of 29:08.7. She finished fifth for Abbotsford and 109th overall.

Molitor finished fourth for the Falcons and 101st overall with a time of 27:41.1. Rounding out the varsity lineup, Angie Chavez finished right behind Atkinson with her time of 29:13.4, which gave her 110th place.

With their regular season meets wrapped up, Abbotsford will have a week off before making the trip back to Athens next Thursday, October 13th for the Marawood conference meet. The start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Angie Chavez was Abbotsford’s fourth runner, completing the course in 28:36 and taking 30th. The trio ofAsia Atkinson, Azalea Atkinson and Ana Flores took 37th, 38th, and 39th respectively, with final times of 29:46, 29:50 and 30:10.
