A welcome back letter from the Colby superintendent

A welcome back letter from the Colby superintendent A welcome back letter from the Colby superintendent

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year. As our “return to normal” continues to evolve, we need to recognize the resiliency of our students and staff who have adapted to changing schedules. This simply demonstrates the strength of our community, students and staff.

We will also welcome new leadership at Colby High with Mr. Wozniak becoming the high school principal, replacing Ms. Diedrich who retired last Spring with 43 years of service to the District.

Moving into the 2022-23 school year the District will have two focus major areas.

n Revisiting and revising our strategic plan (a threeyear review).

n Continued emphasis on Professional Learning Communities as our method of “doing business” within the school district.

Strategic Planning

Our stakeholder-driven strategic plan was established in 2013-14 with a threeyear cycle to review and revise to guide our priorities. This was updated in the spring of 2017 with a second revision planned for the Spring of 2020. The Board of Education placed our strategic planning on hold as the district dealt with “other things” through the spring of 2020 and the 2020-21 academic year. The process to begin this was started in the spring of 2022 and will continue into the 2022-23 academic year.

Professional Learning Communities

We are entering our 11th year as a Professional Learning Communities district with a focus on PLC’s and continue our emphasis on professional development and curriculum/assessment development and implementation of state standards. PLC’s have three main goals or “big ideas.”

n A focus on learning

n A culture of collaboration

n A focus on results We will always emphasize communication as a key asset in building relationships that enhance your child’s education. If you have questions, concerns or simply want to share what we’re doing well, please contact your child’s teacher(s), the building principal or myself.
