Doctor’s Care clinic provides affordable health care option
A new health care option will be available to central Wisconsin residents in the form of Doctor’s Care. The modern clinic boasts an inviting atmosphere with personalized care, at an affordable price.
The clinic has two employees, Dr. Joan Hannula, M.D. and Jamie Barker, RN MSN. The duo has combined to form a health care system that they call, “direct primary care.”
Their program is independent, membership-based for primary medical care, and allows patients an alternative to care you might get at a health system.
Members of Doctor’s Care are billed monthly as a subscription so patients don’t need to pay at appointments because it is covered in the subscription price.
Doctor’s Care performs all the functions of a primary care physician including: preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, physicals and minor surgical procedures. They also have heavily discounted labs and medications available for patients.
Hannula has been in practice for over 25 years and has seen changes in health care that have not been of benefit to patients or physicians.
“Doctor’s Care is an alternative to the large, hospitalowned conglomerates with paired insurance plans. Doctor’s Care does not accept insurance,” the duo said in a release.
“Health insurance is not health care,” Barker said. The clinic has a cafe with a modern waiting area. According to Hannula, the goal is for patients to come in and feel welcome instead of feeling like they are going to a clinic.
“People don’t like going to the doctor, myself included. So we tried to make the atmosphere less intimidating,” Hannula said.
Hannula said the average family doctor has 2,000 patientes while she plans to cap herself to 600 patients before they would potentially bring another doctor on board. Members are able to call or text Hannula or Barker 24/7 and 365 days per year. Appointments will be 30-60 minutes in length depending on what the visit is about but Hannula said that is much more time than you would get at a corporate doctor’s office.
Both Hannula and Barker have chemistry as they worked together at the Stanley prison treating inmates. Hannula also worked in private practice for a time before working in Stanley.
