Colby golfs out at Marshfield Country Club
The Colby Hornets varisty golf team traveled down Highway 29 to Medowview Golf Course in Owen on Tuesday where they placed third out of seven Cloverbelt Conference teams.
The team finished with a total score of 183, only 12 shots back of the Neillsville Warriors who went on to win the meet and seven shots back of the second-place team, Columbus.
Junior Kaden Weise led the Hornets with a low-score of 42, good enough for sixth place in the nine-hole event. Seniors Brayden Boyer (ninth place) and Carson Rau (12th place) finished with scores of 45 and 47, respectively. Senior Brody Decker ran through the course with a final tally of 49 and placed 14th in the event.
The Hornets traveled last week to the Marshfield Country Club where they competed on May 3 in a conference meet.
The Colby Hornets golfed against Neillsville, Columbus Catholic, Stanley Boyd, Thorp and Owen. The golfers shot a total team score of 214. Boyer placed eighth with a score of 48, Rau placed 13th with a score of 52, Decker took 18th place with a score of 56, Weise took 21st with a score of 58 and saving the best for last, junior Isaac Raatz, he placed 26th with a score of 68.
“They have been asking all the right questions and today will be the first day of the season that we get to actually practice outside on our home course. We will spend the next couple practices on the range and also the putting green, focusing on clean contact, ball control and 6 foot par putts,” commented varisty coach Brandon Butkus.
Next on the docket, the Hornet golf team will travel to Neillsville where they will face off against multiple teams from the Cloverbelt Conference at the Neillsville Country Club on May 12.
