Colby girls claim first, boys third
The Colby Hornet track and field team hosted the Colby Invitational on Tuesday. A total of six schools competed in the event. The Colby girls’ team took home top honors at the meet and the boys’ team finished third overall.
With a final score of 158 points, the Colby girls finished in first place over second-place Merrill, which finished with 144 points, and third place Bloomer, which finished with 109. The Colby boys team scored 90 points, which was good enough to place third behind Merrill, who scored 170 points to finish in first place, and second place Bloomer, which ended the evening with 106 points.
The girls’ team had several athletes withfirstplacefinishesincludingHayden Willner in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.36 seconds and the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.61 seconds and Trinity Severson in the 300 meter with a time of 52.30 seconds. Malayna Rieck also claimed two first place spots, winning both the discus and shotput events with distances of 115 feet, seven inches and 34 feet, eight inches respectively. Several relays also took first place for the Hornets, including the 4x100-meter relay of Jazmyn Heeg, Kaylee Podevels, Alexis Vanderhoof and Tori Underwood in 56.73 seconds, the 4x400-meter relay of Daisy Feiten, Willow Oehmichen, Severson and Willner in 4:34.20, and the 4x800-meter relay of Feiten, Oehmichen, Mercedes Sarkkinen, and Severson in 10:56.49.
Taking second for the girls was Heeg in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 13.69 seconds and the 200-meter dash, finishing in 28.76 seconds, as well as Feiten in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:36.38. Two relays also placed second, with the 4x200meter relay of Podevels, Underwood, Anna Kroll and Olivia Krause finishing in 2:04.64, and the 4x800-meter relay of Pearl Feiten, MaKenna Herrmann, Payton Roth and Reagan Schraufnagel finishing in 11:57.75. Placing third for the girls was Oehmichen in the 800-meter run in 2:38.46, Herrmann in the 1600-meter run in 6:17.53, and Schraufnagel in the 3200-meter run in 14:20.20.
Finishing with a first place finish for the boys’ team was Caden Healy in the 100-meter dash, which he finished in 11.53 seconds.
The boys’ team also had two second place finishes in field events. Derek Jeske took second in discus with a distance of 109 feet, seven inches and Erik Martinez placed second in shot put with a distance of 38 feet, one inch.
Third place finishes included Max Adams in the triple jump with a distance of 32 feet, four inches, Healy in the shot put with a distance of 37 feet, eight inches, and the 4x100-meter relay of Seth Hopperdietzel, Caden Kleparski, Martinez and Tyler Timmers with a time of 50.62 seconds.
The Hornets will be traveling to Bloomer on Thursday, April 28, and Three Lakes on Tuesday, May 3.
