Falteisek carries Falcons boys to 18th at Elite Meet
State qualifier records three personal bests
The Abbotsford Falcons boys track and field team joined the Colby Hornets in Menomonie on Saturday. The Falcons brought with them a handful of athletes, but in spite of their small numbers, Abby tied for 18th at the Elite Meet at UW Stout’s Johnson Fieldhouse.
Butternut shared 18th place with the Falcons with both finishing with ten points. Senior Ty Falteisek was sensational on Saturday, scoring all ten of Abbotsford’s points. Falteisek finished eight in the prelims of the 55-meter dash thanks to an indoor PR of 6.91 seconds. From there, the speedy senior took eighth overall in the finals with his time of 6.94 seconds.
Falteisek turned in his best result in the 200-meter dash, recording another indoor PR. Falteisek ran a blazing time of 23.68 seconds to finish in second place an impressive feat considering how man teams and state qualifiers were present.
But Falteisek was not quite done for the day. He picked up one final point by showing his strength as well as his speed. Faltieisek took part in the shot put, and he recorded his third personal record of the day.
With a throw of 45-04.25, Falteisek placed eighth overall. Junior Marcus Bohl also took part in the shot put, heaving the twelve pound ball a distance of 40-06.50 to finish 17th.
Sophomore Jack Schindler and freshman Miguel Bautista were also on hand in Menomonie, with both running the 800-meters. Schindler finished inside the top 30, placing 29th with his time of 2:31.33. Bautista was close by, placing 31st in a time of 2:35.65.
With conditions outside still soggy and cold, the Falcons meet in Mondovi that was scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, has been cancelled. The boys will be back in action on Tuesday, April 12, taking part in the Pittsville Invitational.
