April Showers Bring Reading Hours at CCL April showers may bring the need for indoor activities—reading books and magazines or viewing movies from the Colby Community Library (CCL) could help fill the rainy hours.

Maddie Day/MADD Items Bring completed items for the Maddie Day/Make-a-Difference Day (MADD) service projects to the CCL by Friday, April 1. Many well-constructed items have already been returned.

NLW National Library Week (NLW) is celebrated April 3-9. The first baby boy and first baby girl born at Marshfield Medical Center will receive a reading-themed baby gift bag filled with goodies from the Friends of the CCL.

Libraries Rock!

The theme for National Library Month at the CCL is “Libraries Rock!” Stop in to play “I SPY” in the “Rock-Quarium” for a chance to win rockin’ prizes all month long. Check out library materials and receive an I Spy entry slip. Search the Rock-Quarium for the number of items requested on your slip. There will be 50 winners selected from the slips with correct answers.

Also, be sure to view the CCL’s piece of the Colby Meteorite (on loan from the Rural Arts Museum) which fell on July 4, 1917. Don’t know much about the meteorite? Pick up a copy of the Wisconsin Historical Magazine’s article about the event that occurred over 100 years ago on the outskirts of Colby.

Travel Around the World Travel Around the World reading and movie challenge for adults continues. Fill as many passports as you are able before the end of 2022 to win Abby/Colby Chamber certificates.

Take and Make Kits Enjoy making springtime crafts with the Take and Make kits assembled for April. Handprint flowers, gnome bunny sticker packs, scratch off spring ornaments, or friendly bugs await.

Choose two crafts each time you visit. In addition, look for our big basket of special Easter activities. Select one item from the basket as a gift from the CCL to you.

Year Books Visit the Colby Community Library website to view digital copies of all the Colby High School yearbooks owned by the library. A special thanks to the Oklahoma Correctional Institute (OCI) for digitizing the yearbooks free of charge. Paging through the yearbooks, either at the library or online, is a great way to reconnect with the past. We are also looking for yearbooks to fill in the CCL collection. If you own yearbooks from 1926-1941, 1944, 1947, 1957, 1958, 1987 and 1989, please consider donating them to the library.

Wanted: Books and Movies Forward Bank, Colby location, is collecting clean, saleable books, movies, and puzzles for the Cheese Days Book/Movie Sale. Drop items off during Forward’s open lobby hours.

The sale is planned for Thursday, July 14 from 7-7, Friday, July 15 from 7-7, and Saturday, July 16 ($5 Bag Day) from 8-noon. The sale is sponsored by the Friends of the CCL.

SRP Plans for a Summer Reading Program (SRP) are in progress. The theme for 2022 is “Oceans of Possibilities.” In May, check the CCL website, Facebook page, and local news media for details about the program and summer hours.

Book Club The CCL Evening Book Club will meet Tuesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. The book to be discussed is “All Thirteen: The Incredible Cave Rescue of the Thai Boys’ Soccer Team” by Christina Soontornvat. Terra Newman will be the discussion leader.
