For the first time in over three years, the Abbotsford Falcons track and field program were competing in an indoor meet, with the season beginning at a normal date and time.

It’s a welcome change for sure, but outside of this year’s seniors, the 2022 Marshfield Tiger Indoor Invite was many Falcons first ever indoor track meet. It was also some Falcons first ever track meet, with the 2022 program welcoming in plenty of new faces.

Marshfield would go on to win the boys meet on Tuesday, March 22, with a final score of 100.5 points, followed by Medford with 84 points. Owen-Withee rounded out the top three with 68.5 points. Abbotsford finished tenth overall with 32 points.

The Falcons were led by Ty Falteisek. The speedy senior placed inside the top five in three individual events.

Faltiesek took top honors in the 220-yard dash, claiming first place with a new personal best time of 24.81 seconds. He backed this up by placing third in the final of the 60-meter dash in 6.87 seconds.

Faltiesek then went on to finish fourth in the shot put with a throw of 40-4.5. Falteisek also helped guide the 4x160 relay to top four finish. That relay team, which was comprised of Falteisek, Marcus Bohl, Jake Hirsch and Emilio Escalera was fourth in a time of 1:18.25.

The Falcons would see several more athletes place inside the top ten in their respective varsity events.

Jake Hirsch placed tenth in the 60-meter dash finals in his time of 27.80 seconds. Senior Oswaldo Tomas was tenth in the mile in 6:02.46. Tomas was also part of the 4x800-meter relay that took fifth. Tomas, Andrew Hirsch, Jack Schindler and Miguel Bautista completed the relay in a time of 10:52.82.

Marcus Bohl, who qualified for the state tournament in the discus, showed his strength by placing ninth in the shot put with a throw of 36-10.

Jake Hirsch added another top ten result by placing tenth in the pole vault with a cleared height of six feet. Sophomore Brennan Mireles did even better, picking up points by placing sixth with a height of six feet, six inches.

Freshmen Emilio Escalera and Daniel Davilla led Abby in the jumping events. Escalera was ninth in the long jump in 14-09, and Davilla was ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 28-08.50.

The Abbotsford Falcons had several boys on the junior varsity team who distinguished themselves on Tuesday.

Fernando Perez, Jack Schindler and Daniel Davilla placed fifth, sixth and eighth in the shot put with throws of 32-09, 31-09, and 30-06. Miguel Bautista placed ninth in the long jump with a distance of 14-06.25.

Northern Badger

The Falcons stepped up in class on Saturday, March 26, taking a trip to the campus of UW - Stout and the Johnson Fieldhouse for the Northern Badger Small School meet.

The Falcons finished twelfth as a team with 18 points in Menomonie, thanks in large part senior Ty Falteisek. Falteisek earned points in every event he competed in, with his best result coming in his signature race - the 400-meter dash.

Falteisek was third in 54.25. He backed this up with fifth place in the 55-meters in 6.96 seconds. From there, he took sixth in the 200-meter dash in 24-25 seconds. Falteisek showed off his strength when he threw the shot put 42 feet, 11 inches, good enough for fifth place.

Marcus Bohl was the only other Falcon to earn points, scoring one point with his eight place result in the shot put thanks to his throw of 40 feet, one inch.

Plenty of other Falcons competed in Menomonie, with most of them freshman or sophomores, and nearly every athlete recorded new personal bests.

The Abby boys next meet will be back at UW - Stout this Friday. The first events will begin at 3:30 p.m.
