Four Hornets named all-conference

Four Hornets named all-conference Four Hornets named all-conference

The Colby Hornets boys basketball season enjoyed one of their most successful seasons in recent memory, racking up a 17-8 overall record that includes playing in a WIAA D-4 regional title game for the first time in a decade.

Colby would finish third in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference standings, and as a result of their excellent season, the Hornets placed four players amongst the all-conference list.

It should come as no surprise senior Richard Streveler was a unanimous choice for first team all-conference. But Streveler’s sensational senior season garnered him some truly impressive accolades, including the Eastern Cloverbelt Player of the Year.

Streveler finished with season averages of 19.7 points per game, and 4.6 assists per game. Both averages led the league. Streveler scored 479 points this season, and finishes with 931 points in his four year career in Colby green and gold. Streveler was also the Hornets leading rebounder, with 7.1 rebounds per game.

Streveler earned one final honor as the winter season closes out, being named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) individual academic allstate team. Only 15 boys from across the state received the honor.

To be recognized, WBCA member coaches were required to nominate their athletes. Minimum requirements for nomination included seniors with a grade point average of at least 3.5, and an ACT score of at least 25.

Senior guard Brody Decker was also awarded Eastern Cloverbelt honors, finishing as a second team recipient for the 2021-22 season. Decker ranked second on the team in scoring, finishing with 11 points per game.

Decker scored 230 points in his final year with Colby, and led the Hornets in three pointers made and three point percentage, splashing 53 triples, converting 42 percent of his three point attempts.

Junior guard Mateo Lopez joins Decker on the second team. Lopez averaged 9.7 points per game, good enough for third highest on the team.

Junior Kaden Wiese rounds out the Hornets all-conference honorees. Wiese finished behind Decker with 52 triples made. Wiese averaged 8.8 points a game, fourth best on the team, and was tabbed with honorable mention honors.
