Abbotsford council OKs 2021 squad car purchase

The Colby/Abbotsford Police Department (CAPD) is a step closer to acquiring a new squad car after the Abbotsford city council gave the police department their blessing to move forward on a 2021 Durgano pursuit during their Wednesday, March 17, meeting.

CAPD will still need the approval of the Colby city council before they can begin the steps to purchase the $35,851 2021 Durango from Gross Motors of Neillsville.

The council asked the police department if they had the money in their budget to purchase the sqaud car, and the answer was yes. This includes an additional $2,425 that CAPD recently acquired due to a lien for storage on a truck from an owner in Arkansas who has yet to pick up the vehicle Abbotsford administrator Josh Soyk, in follow-up comments made vie e-mail, said it was important that CAPD has an updated fleet to carry out their business.

“One thing I want to point out is that even though the vehicle is a 2021, it is a brand new vehicle, not a used one,” Soyk said. “I think it’s important that the police department keeps the fleet updated.

“You can’t predict when a vehicle is going to break down and the last thing we would want is for it to break down when responding to an emergency.”
