Abby library hosting variety of holiday events

Abbotsford Public Library will host a tie-quilted fleece blanket workshop the day before Thanksgiving — Nov. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to noon — for youth ages 8-12. As the youths make their own travel lap quilt, they will enjoy a book read aloud. Registration is required as space and supplies are limited.

Join the library staff for a fun kickoff to the holiday season and a chance to win some wonderful prizes during the library’s annual holiday program. The program will be virtual, hosted on Facebook Live; tune in Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at www.facebook.com/AbbotsfordPublicLibrary/. There will be humorous readings, trivia, games, craft demonstrations and prize giveaways.

The library also has plenty of fun planned for December, especially during winter break. Make note of which events require registration to help the library set up enough space to accommodate social distancing.

Family movie night will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, at 6:45 p.m. The library will have a selection of holiday movies on hand and moviegoers will vote on their favorite. Registration required.

Adult craft night is Thursday, Dec. 16, at 6:30 p.m. Crafters will be making a snowflake wreath. There is no cost; however, a goodwill donation is appreciated. Registration required.

Children are invited to the library on Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 4:30 p.m. for a story and cut-out sugar cookie decorating. Registration required.

There will be games and pizza for teens and preteens on Thursday, Dec. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. Learn a new game from the library’s game collection or bring one of your own. Registration required.

Enjoy movie and hot chocolate the morning of Christmas Eve. The library will start a family friendly holiday movie at 10:15 am. Registration required.

On Dec. 27, 28 and 29, from 10 a.m. to noon, crafters young and old can come in to make perler bead tree ornaments. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the library will host its life-size Candyland game. As in years past, you and your family will be the pieces, but this year there will be no live character actors. No registration required for these two walk-in activities.

For another fun activity for the whole family, the library will once again be hosting its own escape room. This year’s theme is: Professor Jones’s Tent. Your team must retrieve a precious archaeological artifact before time runs out. Sign up to play with your family or a group of friends. Openings are Thursday, Dec. 30, with start times of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 31, with start times of 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon. Registration required. Limit of six per group. Level of difficulty can be chosen at sign-up.

When you stop in to sign up for a holiday event, be sure to check-out the library’s new collection of mental and emotional health awareness picture books. The collection was funded by the Casey Lee Blume Memorial Foundation. Picture books are an ideal format for teaching young children how to understand and deal with emotions. The goal of these selected books is to provide young readers with tools to maintain a healthy emotional and mental landscape.

For more information on these or other events, call the library at 715-223-3920 or visit the library’s website at www. abbotsfordpl.org/. Any and all of these events are subject to change at any time so watch the library Facebook page for updates.
