so the epoxy is evenly applied. Then she’ll add the vinyl, pictures, or lettering that the design asks for before coating it with another one to two layers of epoxy.
Mitchell explained that physically prepping and decorating the tumblers can be done in 24 hours, but they require an additional 24 hours to sit and cure. Once the tumbler is finished, she makes arrangements with the customer to have them pick their tumbler up. “I try to get them to pick up from Vintage Naturals, because then it’s getting people into her store too,” said Mitchell.
Along with tumblers of all sizes, Mitchell is also able to make custom keychains. However, she tries to focus on just making tumblers. “I know that there’s other individuals out in the community that do rings, keychains, necklaces, that kind of stuff, and I kind of leave that up to them. I’m friends with most of them so they support me, I support them. If somebody comes to me and says ‘hey, can you make a keychain,’ I try to deter them to somebody else,” said Mitchell.
A lot of the customers that Tumble Me Timber gets live in the Medford area, but occasionally she’ll get an order from someone elsewhere. She recently made a tumbler for someone who lives in Hayward as well as sent an order of them to her cousin in Hudson. Sometimes, she’ll make ones for her family and friends in Wyoming. “It’s mostly local people, but in the last couple of months, I’ve gotten orders from out of town, even out of state. I’m thinking it’s probably just word of mouth and my Facebook page, because I don’t really advertise anywhere else,” said Mitchell.
Along with the growing number of individual custom orders, Mitchell has been receiving larger orders from community organizations as well. She recently made around twenty tumblers for the Chamber of Commerce’s golf outing and will be making tumblers for the upcoming Chris Kroeze concert. For the concert, Tumble Me Timber will have a booth set up and people who purchased VIP tickets have the option to contact Mitchell and get a personalized cup with a picture of the concert ticket and their name on it.
Along with Tumble Me Timber, Mitchell is also a personal trainer at Stronger Version Fitness. “Since the gym was able to open up last May, I’ve specified Mondays and Wednesdays are my training days,” said Mitchell. “Then Tuesday, Thursday, and sometimes Friday is when I work on my tumblers.”
She said that the business has been keeping her busy. Last December, Mitchell guessed that she made close to 100 tumblers for the holiday season. She had to have a cut off for orders so she’d have enough time to fulfill every order and still have time for her own family. After the holiday rush finished, business slowed down a bit. “Right now, because it’s not super busy, I probably make about 20 to 25 a month,” said Mitchell.
While she’s been shocked by the progress of her business, she said that she’s been enjoying making tumblers. “I was not expecting this at all. It’s awesome, I love doing it. Every tumbler is unique in its own way, even if it is those sponsored ones,” said Mitchell. “It’s something new with every tumbler.”
