The Abbotsford/Colby baseball co-op picked up a pair of Marawood - North victories in their last two contests, ousting Prentice and Phillips to keep their hopes for a conference title alive.

The wins improve the co-op’s record to 13-5, and their conference record to 6-2. Even so, Abby/Colby will need a little help from Athens if they are to share a three way tie with the ‘Jays and Rib Lake as Marawood - North champs.

14-0

The Abbotsford/Colby baseball team wasted little time in dispatching Prentice on May 25. Abby/Colby blasted ten hits, as they routed their rivals 14-0.

The co-op raced to an early 9-0 lead, scoring five runs in the first and four more at the top of the second during their road match. One run in the third was followed by two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.

Hunter Soyk got the win, pitching a shut-out. Soyk’s good day started right from the get-go, with the senior striking out the first three batters he faced with just nine pitches.

Soyk fanned eight batters, and Brandon Diedrich struck out six more in two innings for the save. Soyk and Diedrich also led the way in the batter’s box, picking up two hits apiece. Both of Diedrich’s hits were doubles.

Marco Olvera and Ross Elmhorst also collected two hits. Olvera had one double and a team high three RBIs.
