The Falcons track team is off to a blistering start in 2021, with the Abby girls finishing third at the Oriole Invite in Stanley-Boyd on Friday, while the boys placed seventh.

Junior Ty Falteisek is off to a fantastic start in 2021. Falteisek won the 200-meter dash in 24.73 and the 400-meter dash in 55.48. He added a runner-up result in the 100-meter dash in 12.43 seconds.

Evan Schunk, Brandon Hawkey, Jake Hirsch and Jack Schindler finished fourth in the 4x100-meter relay in 53.70. Marcus Bohl took fourth in the shot put in 37-04. Hawkey was eighth in the discus with a throw of 92-08. Jake Hirsch and Warren Flink were third and sixth in the pole vault in heights of 7-06 and 7-00.

The girls had a slew of finishers in the top eight who scored points for the Falcons. Junior Olivia Hammel was eight in the 100-meter dash in 14.73 seconds. Senior Mya Ruesch took seventh in the 200-meter dash in 30.67, a new PR.

Stephany Espino was eighth in the 400-meters in 1:20.12, and Melany Espino was seventh in the 1,600-meter run 7:09.07, also a PR.

Freshman Sydney Falteisek had a big night, capturing the 100-meter hurdles in 18.28 seconds. Junior Bridgett Pogodzinski came soon after, finishing second in 19.38 seconds.

Falteisek swept both hurdle events when she won the 300-meter hurdles in 53.23 seconds. Iris Crus scored a point for Abby by placing eighth in the 300-meter hurdles in 1:09.03.

Sommer Brodhagen, Briseida Escalara, Ruesch and Hammel won the 4x100meter relay in a time of 57.10. This same team then went second in the 4x200-meter relay in a time of 1:59.30.

Isabella Aguilera was sixth in the shot put in 25-11.50. Joselyn Chacon took fourth in the discus with a throw of 7902, Madison Block was fifth with a throw of 79-00, and Sommer Brodhagen was seventh with her throw of 73-04.

Falteisek captured her third title of the night when she won the high jump by clearing a height of five feet, a new PR for the athletic freshman.

Hammel and Ruesch also notched points in the high jump. Hammel was third in 4-06 and Ruesch was eighth in 4-04. Bridgette Pogodzinski was fourth in the pole vault in six feet.

Calley Ruesch was seventh in the long jump, and Ana Flores was eighth in the long jump with distances of 13-01.5 and 11-11.25. Falteisek added another top three finish when she took second in the triple jump in 2-06.50. Escalara was fourth in the triple jump in 28-04.00.

The Falcons enjoyed the comfort of home on Monday as they hosted the Abbotsford Invite. The girls team finished fourth with 79.5 points and the boys were sixth with 41 points.

On the boys side, Ty Falteisek gets faster every week. Falteisek ran his best time ever in the 100-meter dash to earn second place with a PR of 11.59 seconds. Mason Wellman made his debut for Abby this season, taking fifth in the 100-meter dash in 12.42 seconds.

Evan Schunk, Falteisek, Jake Hirsch and Brandon Hawkey were second in the 4x100-meter in 48.52 seconds.

Marcus Bohl placed fifth in the shot put in 38-00.50. Garrett Short was seventh with 36-7.25, a new PR for Short. Bohl added third place in the discus with a PR throw of 113-09.

Hawkey was sixth in the high jump with a height of 4-10. Wellman had another top eight performance on Monday, this time in the pole vault as he cleared a height of 10-06.00.

Olivia Hammel and Mya Ruesch notched personal bests in the 100-meter dash to finish fourth and sixth in 13.97 and 14.17 seconds. Sommer Brodhagen showed her speed by taking fourth in the 200-meters in 29.10 - a new PR.

Sydney Falteisek and Bridgette Pogodzinski went fourth and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.52 and 18.25 both new personal bests.

Falteisek and Iris Cruz then went fourth and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.79 and 1:01.79. Both times were new personal records.

The Falcons fielded two teams for the 4x100-meters. Brodhagen, Pogodzinski, Calley Ruesch and Stephany Espino took third in 59.13. Briseida Escalara, Ana Flores, Cruz and Melany Espino finished fourth in 1:01.05.

Brodhagen, Escalara, Ruesch and Hammel had the best result of the night for the Abby girls with a first place showing in the 4x200-meters with a their time of 1:59.45.

Falteisek, Ruesch, Escalara and Hammel then added a second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with their time of 4:42.11.

Isabella Aguilera was eighth in the discus with a throw of 77-05, and also eighth in the shot put in 26-04.

Hammel and Ruesch went third and fourth in the high jump in 4-04 and 4-02. Pogodzinski was eighth in the pole vault in 6-06 - a new PR.

Calley Ruesch and Escalara were fourth and fifth in the long jump in 13-06 and 13-3.50. Falteisek recorded a fifth place result in the triple jump in 29-07.50, a new PR.

The Falcons next meet will be in Thursday, May 20, in Phillips.
