What Have Democrats Done for the Working Man/Woman MEDICARE & MEDICAID HEALTHCARE Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare into law on July 30, 1965. The law established Medicare as a health insurance program for the elderly, and Medicaid for the poor and disabled. Medicare and Medicaid have had a major impact on the lives of millions. As of December 2024, over 68 million people in the United States were covered by Medicare. This includes people who are 65 or older, as well as younger people with certain disabilities. Medicare has contributed to rising longevity. Medicaid covers: • 18.9% of Americans nationally • 4 in 10 children • Nearly 50% of kids with special needs • 79 million low-income Americans • 42% of births nationwide • 6 in 10 nursing home residents The House Republican Budget Bill cuts Medicaid by $880 billion to fund a $4.5 trillion tax cut for billionaires and blow up the deficit - it is evil. Republicans work for corporations, lobbyists, and billionaires.
