Tales of our Beginnings Cadott • Cornell • Lake Holcombe areas Another Branch of the Grottes Mikal D. Grotte came from Norway, to Cornell, in 1920. He married Laura Hake in 1923, and the two had children Caroline, Loretta, Jeanne and Grant. Mikal was employed at the Cornell Papermill for approximately 40 years, retiring as a master mechanic. As one of the four children, Grant was very active in school activities, especially athletics and Scouts. He retired from Continental Airlines in 1997, after 37 years as an aircraft mechanic. He raised six sons – two of them born while residing in Cornell. Grant later moved to the Milwaukee area.
