Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $7.21 million contract with James Peterson Sons of Medford for a resurfacing and safety improvement project on STH 97 between Reflection Street in the village of Stratford and Northridge Street in Marshfield.
Road construction is scheduled to start this Monday, Aug. 1, and is estimated to be completed in the middle of November, depending on the weather.
The pavement on this segment of STH 97 is showing signs of deterioration. In addition, run-off-the-road crashes have occurred within the construction project’s limits, and crashes have been reported at the intersection of CTH AAA/ North Galvin Avenue and STH 97 north of Marshfield. Crashes have also been reported at the STH 97 intersections with CTH C east and Staadt Avenue.
The following are details of the STH 97 resurfacing and safety improvement project: the removal of a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement and modifying intersections to aid in reducing crashes such as widening the intersection of STH 97 and CTY AAA/North Galvin Avenue by adding median left and right turn lanes, widening the intersection of STH 97 and Staadt Avenue to add a median left turn lane and widening the intersection of STH 97 and CTH C east to allow for the addition of a southbound median left turn lane.
Further details of the STH 97 resurfacing and safety improvement plan include making repairs to the bridge over the Little Eau Pleine River; paving the road shoulders, increasing the width of the paved surface from three to five feet and adding rumble strips to improve safety; replacing culverts and cattle passes with new culverts and replacing guardrails.
STH 97 will remain open during construction but motorists can expect lane closures controlled by flaggers. In addition, one lane of traffic controlled by temporary signals will always be open during the work on the bridge over the Little Eau Pleine River. Drake Avenue will be allowed to be temporarily closed while the temporary traffic signals are in operation for the work on the structure; side road access will be maintained during the project except CTH AAA/North Galvin Avenue and Staadt Avenue each will be allowed to be closed for a maximum of five working days while the intersection approaches are being reconstructed. The crossings will not be closed at the same time. Driveway access will be maintained throughout the project.
