Stratford High School senior Elizabeth “Lizzie” Wenzel is a CESA 9 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Excellence Scholar in 2022. She is one of 174 graduating high school students who’ll receive a $10,000 scholarship.
Herb Kohl Student Excellence Scholarship recipients like Wenzel have demonstrated excellence in the academic area and high motivation to achieve, have displayed a broad range of activity and leadership outside the academic setting and have shown a strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond.
Student Excellence Scholarship recipients are selected by a statewide committee composed of civic leaders and representatives of educationrelated associations and the program’s co-sponsors: The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, regional Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESA), Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and the Wisconsin Homeschooling Parents Association.
Mock crash
The Stratford Area Fire Department will hold a mock vehicle crash for Stratford High School students at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at Tigers Stadium. The public is welcome to attend.
Earth day activities
Stratford High School is asking Stratford-area residents to submit Earth Day projects they need done at their homes during the morning of Friday, April 22. They should call the high school this week at 715-687-4311 to submit their Earth Day projects.
Bloodmobile
A bloodmobile will be held from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at the VFW clubhouse in Stratford.
The following Tuesday blood drives will take place at the VFW clubhouse in Stratford: April 26, June 28, Aug. 23 and Oct. 25. No appointments are needed for people to donate blood.
Grab & Go craft
During the entire month of April, adults can pick up a free Grab & Go craft kit from any of the Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) locations.
The kit will contain supplies for making a spring-inspired thimble bouqet pendent.
Kits are free and available while supplies last. For more informaton, people can call the MCPL’s headquarters in Wausau at 715-261-7230.
Book Club
The public is welcome to join the Marathon County Public Library’s Stratford Branch and fellow readers for a wonderful book club discussion at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, on author Matt Haig’s acclaimed novel titled, “The Midnight Library.”
