100 Years Ago March 26, 1925 Librarian Schultz Says Use of Books Increases

That the children of Medford are reading more non-fiction than several years ago, is shown in some interesting statistics recently made by the librarian. In 1918 21% of the total circulation of juvenile books was non-fiction, while in 1924 35% was non-fiction. This increase is partly due to the well selected books on the Wisconsin Reading Circle List.

The number of books in the library has increased from 2240 in 1918 to 3101 in 1924 and the increase in active borrowers has been from 863 to 1,346.

75 Years Ago March 30, 1950 Triplet Calves Born At Matheus Bros. Farm

An oddity in cowdom occurred Sunday at the Matheus Bros. farm, town of Little Black, when triplet Holstein calves were born. Reports are that Mother Bossy and her two heifers and little bull are getting along fine. That’s production in a big way.

March 27, 1975 Storm Runs Gamut With All Elements Blasting the Area

Hopefully the final winter slap at the area, the boisterous storm Sunday and Monday featured everything in the elements. The blast began Sunday with rain and sleet, accompanied by thunder and lightning, followed by intermittent pellets and high moisture snow.

The main force of the storm skipped this area, the southern part of the state receiving heavy rains and the Superior-Duluth area crippled by a howling blizzard with winds recorded up to 100 m.p.h. during the height of the storm.

25 Years Ago March 29, 2000 City offices begin move to new City Hall building

With renovations nearing completion on the new City Hall building, the City of Medford will begin conducting business from new offices. Staff and equipment are being moved from the old facility to the new building over the next several weeks.

Beginning immediately all City meetings and public hearings will be held at the new City Hall either in the council chambers or the committee room. Those attending meetings are reminded to check agendas and postings.

March 26, 2015 Medford bulldogs skate to a Pee Wee state championship

The Medford Bulldogs captured the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) Pee Wee 4A state championship by winning there games over the weekend at the Lakeland Ice Arena in Minocqua.

Medford was the Region 2 representative in the 4A tournament and opened with a 14-4 rout over Sparta in the Saturday morning quarterfinals. That sent them to an afternoon semifinal matchup with the host North Lakeland Bucks. The Bulldogs won that game 3-1 to advance to Sunday’s championship game against the M& M Thunder from Marinette-Menominee.
