Virginia K. “Ginny” Schultz

1937-2025
Virginia K. “Ginny” Schultz, 87, of Medford, died Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Aspirus Hospital in Stanley. She was born May 26, 1937 in Milwaukee to Odise and Anna (Sommers) Dowden. She graduated from Medford High School, class of 1955. Following high school, Ginny went on to Teacher’s College, earning her teaching degree. She taught elementary school up until the time she had children of her own.
On April 18, 1959, she married Gene Schultz. They owned and operated a dairy farm, and Ginny helped Gene on the farm while raising their children.
“Family is everything” Ginny’s children would often hear her say, and motherhood was certainly her calling. Along with raising her own seven children, Ginny and Gene opened their home to many foster children over the years. She made it her mission to always have good meals on the table, and over time became an excellent cook and baker. No one ever went hungry. Her loving home became a gathering place for neighbors, friends and extended family. She became a second mother to many neighborhood children.
With her teaching background, Ginny served on the Medford School Board for three terms while her children were in school.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of nearly 66 years, Gene; children, Bryan (Barb) Schultz, Denyse (Charles) Valentine, Todd (Dawn) Schultz, Kelly (Pam) Schultz, and Deann Schultz; siblings, Martin Dowden and Patricia Seidensticher; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gene and Dwayne Schultz; sisters, Anne Thompson, Rose Hoffman, Ruth Weiler, Marge Lewis; brothers, Joe, Ed, Jim, Richard, Robert, Kenneth, and Donald Dowden.
A celebration of Ginny’s life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025. Service place and time will be announced in the May 15th edition of the Star News.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and will be donated to charitable organizations that Ginny held close to her heart. Cards and memorials may be sent to her husband Gene at 1269 N. 8th St., Unit 5, Medford, WI 54451.
