A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father Julian Druffner officiating. Burial will follow at Molitor Catholic Cemetery. Nancy was born Nov. 4, 1958 to Agnes and Lawrence Pernsteiner in Medford. Nancy graduated from Medford Senior High in 1977. Following graduation she went to floral design school in Chicago, Ill., where she later put her skills to work managing the local flower shop and eventually owning her own business, “Silk Creations and Gifts.” She met the love her life, Allen Higgins, on a blind date and the two were married on Sept. 8, 1979. Together they had three daughters (Heather, Megan and Jessie). In their younger days Al and Nancy enjoyed taking their Harley Davidson motorcycle out for rides and even ventured out to Sturgis once. Nancy always had a robust garden and enjoyed canning, making sauerkraut and tending to her beautiful flower beds. Nancy was very talented and was always creating something that she loved to gift. Her latest project was making her loved ones mittens and they will hopefully have enough to keep their fingers warm and remember her forever.
Nancy worked at the High View Inn for many years. She loved serving the customers and all her co-workers. She also worked for the Medford School District in various roles, her last being the lunch lady, and eventually retiring after 24 years of service.
Nancy’s favorite job of all is when she became a Grandma. She was the very best Grandma anyone could ask for. She was always available and made them her priority in life. She made the most of the short time she had with them.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Allen; daughters, Heather (Kevin) Ristow of Appleton, Megan (Shawn) Zimmerlee of Tomahawk, and Jessie (Mike) Tomasko of Green Bay; grandchildren, Max, Evan, Hank, and River; sisters, Sandy Halada and Mary (Rick) Smith. Nancy is further survived by many other family and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Agnes Pernsteiner; her brother, Norbert Pernsteiner; and brother-in-law, Mark Halada.
