1941-2025

Marian J. Johnson, 83, of Medford, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford. Marian’s family is comforted knowing that her last days were happy ones… she was able to go have lunch with a good friend and spend the day at the casino with her son.

Marian was born July 9, 1941 at home in Rib Lake to Raymond and Darlene (Pipgrass) McGuire.

On June 3, 1961, she married the love of her life, Dennis W. Johnson. Shortly after the wedding, the newlyweds moved to Marquette, Mich., for Dennis’ job.

In 1966, the couple moved their young family to Medford, and in 1972, they built their home in Rib Lake, where Marian worked for Gem Products Shoe Factory for many years, then worked for Tombstone Pizza until her retirement in 1999. In the late 70’s, she and Dennis purchased the local root beer stand, “DJ’s Drive In,” which they operated for several years.

She enjoyed casino trips, watching FOX news and the Hallmark Channel, cheering on all Wisconsin sports, doing jigsaw puzzles and word finds, and visiting friends.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, devoted to her Catholic faith and prayed the rosary daily.

She is survived by four children, Dennis (Duffy) Johnson of Green Bay, Karen (Mike) Kammerzelt of Waukesha, David Johnson of Burlington, Daniel (Christina) Johnson of Rib Lake; sisters, Kathy Heglund, Loraine Rohleder; brother-in-law, Galen Johnson; eight grandchildren, Brooke, Sam (Olivia), Shea, Colin, Nicki, Riley, Xavier and Will; greatgrandchildren, Payton and Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dennis, on March 9, 2024; brothers, John in infancy and Kenneth McGuire; sister-in-law, Marie Johnson; brothers-in-law, Wayne Heglund, John Bruder and Bill Rohleder.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and may go to the ADRC of Taylor County for their Meals on Wheels Program.
