Medford Lions to host snowshoe event on Feb. 8
The Taylor County Lions Club is resurrecting the Perkinstown Snowshoe Event on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Event organizer Dave Lemke said they were excited to bring the snowshoe event back to its roots in downtown Perkinstown.
The event will include two untimed running events, a 3K race and a 5K race, as well as a youth race and a lighted snowshoe walk with luminaries in the evening.
The course starts from the P-Town Inn and loops around three glacier-carved lakes that are remnants of the last Ice Age that shaped much of the geography of Northern Wisconsin. Lemke said that from the high point in the race, participants will be able to see all three of the lakes.
While the races are untimed, awards will be given out to the top participants crossing the finish line in four different age groups ranging from age 11 and up.
The kids race will be open for those 10 and under and will take place in the afternoon following the 5K and 3K runs.
Registration for the event begins at 9:30 a.m. with the adult races to start at 11 a.m.
Food and refreshments will be available on the grounds of the P-Town Inn throughout the day with food proceeds going to support the Medford Lions Club.
The event is open to the whole family and there will be bonfires on the grounds as well as an enclosed heated area to get out of the cold.
Music will be performed throughout the day with Acoustic Vibe, Tom Burt and Miss Meaghan Owens performing. There will be cash and basket raffles held throughout the afternoon.
