Amber J. Johnson, age 96, of Medford, formerly of Greenwood, passed away at Aspirus Country Gardens Assisted Living, in Medford, on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024. Amber Jean Nolan was born on June 9, 1928 in Sparta to Eugene C. and Verna L. (Oswald) Nolan. She was raised in the Sparta and Greenwood areas, and attended Pleasant View School in Loyal, Christopherson School in Greenwood, and Greenwood High School. Amber was united in marriage to Delmond W. Johnson on June 2, 1945 at the Lutheran parsonage in Greenwood. They farmed her husband’s family farm in Greenwood, and raised their four children. They retired in 1990 and sold the farm to their son, Dean. Amber continued to help Dean milk cows until he sold the farm in 1999. She then worked in home health care. After her husband’s passing on May 27, 2008, Amber continued to live in Greenwood until moving to Medford in 2020 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Butch. On Dec. 3, 2021, she moved to Country Gardens Assisted Living in Medford. She was very happy there, and attended all of the activities offered and made many new friends.

Amber had many interests, but especially enjoyed

baking, flowers, gardening, and mowing the lawn. She was always very active and enjoyed attending many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved watching the Packers, Badgers, and especially the Brewers. Amber was proud when she was chosen to throw out the first pitch at a Brewer game in October 2018. They gave her a jersey with her number - #18.

She loved her family dearly, and will be missed by everyone.

Amber is survived her children, Mike (Shirley) of Greenwood, Karen (Duane “Butch”) Milz of Medford, Dean of Eau Claire; her daughter-in-law, Kyle Johnson, of Greenwood; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; three step great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, John, on Oct. 1, 1997; and her brother, Vernon Nolan on March 13, 2011.

A Celebration of Life for Amber will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, in Greenwood, at a later date.

The family would like to thank Hope Hospice, Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, the second floor of the hospital, and the staff at Country Gardens Assisted Living for the excellent care given to Mom.
