Luella Jean (Gygi) Flater, 92, of Ladysmith, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20 at the Care & Rehab- Ladysmith.

Luella was born Aug. 10, 1932 to Phillip and Thurley Gygi, outside of Holcombe at her Uncle Henry’s house with her Aunt Ruth as the midwife. She married Earl Flater on May 10, 1952. They farmed in Sheldon for over 30 years where she took pride in her beautiful flower gardens. They retired on the banks of the Flambeau in Ladysmith. She was an active 4-H leader for many years as her children grew up. She loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in their many sporting events and activities throughout the years. She had a passion for reading and could read 2-3 books a week. She loved her kitties and was quite competitive in her cribbage playing. In her later years, she loved watching the Brewers, Packers and golf. She had many fond

memories of her and Earl’s travels and of fishing trips to Canada with friends.

Luella is survived by her sister, Sandy Schoonover of Wisconsin Rapids; her children, Bill (Marybeth) of Naperville, Ill., Steven (Leslie) of Redlands, Calif., Dennis (Deb) of Ladysmith, Doug (Marsha) of Eau Claire, Sharon (Steve) Hauser of Gilman and Staci of Blaine, Minn.; and daughter-in-law, Patty of Ladysmith; ten grandchildren, Laura, Kyle, Drew, Craig, Kristin, Chris, Nick, Marisa, Steph and Derk; along with 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Earl; her parents; and brother, Bill; her son, Terry; and grandson, Jason.

The family would like to thank the staff at Care & Rehab-Ladysmith, Dr. Katie Winiarczyk and the many people that visited her while she was in the Care & Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ladysmith with Reverend Craig Zandi officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Ladysmith. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Nash-Jackan Funeral Home is assisting the family.
