Alden “Butch” Hamm
1938-2024
Alden “Butch” Hamm of Dorchester passed away at home on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and under the care of Hope Hospice. A private service was held and Rev. Arockia Amirtha Raj Stanislaus officiated. Maurina- Schilling Funeral Homes is entrusted with the arrangements. Butch was born July 15, 1938 in Owen to George and Milsom (Jorstad) Hamm, Sr. He was the oldest of four children. Butch attended Forest Grove School in Holway Township. As a teenager, he began working at Wagner’s Feed Mill. He worked there for several years before moving to Chicago and doing construction work. Butch married Patricia Grinker on Aug. 8, 1959. They moved to Milwaukee shortly after the wedding where Butch continued to work construction. In 1963, Butch and Patricia moved back to the Medford area where Butch took a job as a truck driver. Over the years, he drove for Francis Melvin, Hartwig Trucking, Medford Fur Foods, Bauer Trucking and Ed Brecke Mink Ranch.
Butch enjoyed driving and talking! He also liked fishing, hunting, playing cards (Sheepshead) and drinking beer with family. Mowing lawn, taking care of his home, and visiting with friends brought him great pleasure. He enjoyed western movies, polka, Willie’s Roadhouse and playing with his five grandchildren. He was a member St. Louis Catholic Church.
Butch is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Randy (Valerie) Hamm; and daughter, Sandy (John) Liazuk; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Aaron) Winey, Stacy (Al) Knop, Amanda (James) Campbell, Nickolas (Cheryl) Liazuk, and Heather (Dan) Schlichting. He is further survived by eight great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and one brother, George (Beth) Hamm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Hamm; sister, Violet Schmidt; and son, Brian Hamm.
