Veterans service officer position to remain a full-time position.
Taylor County will move forward with filling the veterans service officer position with a full-time replacement as the personnel committee voted 5-0 to approve it at the Wednesday meeting.
25 Years Ago December 1, 1999 Taylor County logs safe hunting season
Taylor County residents had one of the safest gun deer season, according to Sheriff Don Wright. There was just one shooting injury reported to the sheriff’s department for the nine-day season, which occurred in the Town of Taft on November 25.

NBC television carried the Green Bay Packer-San Diego Charger football Raider band was featured. Going off without a hitch, the pre-game and mid-game shows received big ovations from the packed Lambeau stadium crowd at Green Bay. A Star News photographer accompanied the band on the trip to the game.
75 Years Ago December 1, 1949 First Blizzard Hits Taylor County
Taylor county, and northern Wisconsin in general, experienced the first blizzard of the season Saturday. Gordon Kuse, weatherman, reports that approximately three inches of snow fell, and propelled by a high wind it led into some pretty good sized drifts.
Roads became slippery, making traveling treacherous for a time. Monday morning found rain falling for a short time, but this was followed by bright sunshine which dried the highways.
100 Years Ago November 27, 1924 Legion Establishing an Ice Skating Rink Here
The local American Legion post is establishing an ice skating rink in Medford. It will be located south of Perkins Street between the Oscar Schields residence and the river.
As much ground as possible is to be flooded, probably furnishing a sheet of ice at least 300 feet in diameter. The water will be pumped from the river by the old fire engine.
Arrangements are being made to keep the ice free from snow this winter, by using a large scraper and possibly reflooding the ponds.
