Vox Pop - National election or national pinata?
Vox Pop
Just for fun.. Only a few days left to cast our votes for the next national pinata. But 'pinata' you ask. I thought we were electing a president? Pretty much the same thing. Something loaded up with expectations that we will blindly pummel with a stick.
Now there are two kinds of kid hanging around a pinata. Most of them are waiting for some kind of wonderful treat to fall out. Some of them just want to use the stick.
Did you know that when you buy a pinata, you also have to buy stuff to put inside and figure out how to get it in there? That was an interesting moment at a child's birthday party.
If you stand around the pinata with bad expectations, you're bound to be disappointed. You wouldn't expect to get a puppy out of a pinata. It's hard to share the puppy. Hopefully the pinata has a mix of reasonable little things for everyone. I would be disappointed if there was no chocolate, but you can't please everyone.
I don't expect either candidate for pinata to solve inflation. We expect too much money to fall out of the pinata, whether it's a tax cut or some kind of benefit.
It's always on someone else to solve inflation, but have you seen our garage sales. 'We the people' complaining about inflation is a bit like Captain Jack Sparrow asking, 'Why is the rum always gone?' Apologies to those who have not seen the movies.
Both sides always ask the same ridiculous question. Are you better off than you were four years ago? Am I? Absolutely not! I'm four years older and that always sucks.
I'll credit both candidates with that one thing. In an environment where they desperately flail away at promising things to gain advantage, neither has promised to make me 4 years younger.
