On September 29 at 1 a.m., a UTV operated by Kyle Kutzke, 45, of Rib Lake was driving southbound on Timber Dr. in the town of Rib Lake while a vehicle operated by Sheila Rich, 57, of Waukesha, was driving northbound on Timber Dr. While negotiating a curve in the road, the Rich vehicle crossed the center of the road way into the southbound lane of Timber Dr. While in the southbound lane, the vehicle struck the Kutzke vehicle on the back driver side portion of the vehicle. This collision cased functional damage to the UTV and disabling damage to Rich’s vehicle requiring it to be towed. Rich was cited for operating under the influence and for operating left of center. Two vehicle crash

On October 13 at 1:49 p.m., a vehicle pulling a trailer operated by Steven Nitek, 79, of Conrath, was eastbound on Spur Rd. in the town of McKinley and turned north into a driveway in front of an oncoming vehicle operated by Dustin Severson, 28, of Hawkins. The Severson vehicle struck the Nitek vehicle causing functional damage to both vehicles.

On October 4 at 3:35 p.m., vehicles operated by Olivia Butler, 17, of Rib Lake, and Scott Kutzleb, 52, of Rib Lake, were southbound on Hwy 102 in the village of Rib Lake. The Kutzleb vehicle was stopped with left turn indicator activated and the Butler vehicle collied with the rear of the Kutzleb vehicle. Butler advised law enforcement that she was not distracted and attempted to brake but was unable to stop. She also advised that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Butler removed her vehicle and the Kutzleb vehicle was removed at a later time by the owner and sustained functional damage. Butler was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Medford Hospital with suspected minor injury and was cited for failure to wear seat belt.

One vehicle crash

On October 7 at 8:05 a.m., a vehicle operated by Laurie Hoffman, 61, of Park Falls, was traveling south on Hwy 13 in the town of Medford. The vehicle crossed the center line and then the driver brought the vehicle back into the correct lane. The vehicle then crossed the fog line and entered the West ditch where it came to rest in some tall grass. Driver stated she was not distracted and the vehicle did this all on its own. Driver stated she recently had some new parts installed on her front end and also four new tires. Upon further investigation the deputy discovered a ball joint broke in her rear right control arm. The vehicle was towed from the scene with no injury or road blockage. On October 5 at 4:29 a.m., a vehicle operated by Christie Graveen, 39, of Rib Lake, was traveling north on CTH C south of Fawn Ave. in the town of Greenwood. The vehicle crossed the center line drifting west and struck a utility pole owned by Taylor Electric Cooperative and continued and hit a concrete wall owned by Patrick Fur Farms and came to rest. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. The road was closed from 5:12 a.m. to 6:23 a.m. Emergency personnel removed Graveen from the vehicle and she was transported by air to Aspirus Wausau Hospital with suspected serious injuries. According to the report, the driver was physically impaired and was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control.

Amended report

On September 13 at 4:46 p.m., a vehicle operated by Virgil Tingley, 71, of Rib Lake, was traveling eastbound on CTH D in the town of Westboro when it ran off the right side of the road. Tingley’s vehicle then struck a vehicle owned by Jane Schneider which was legally parked and unattended in the driveway at W4945 CTH D, Westboro. The Tingley vehicle never stopped and continued east on CTH D. A witness followed the Tingley vehicle into Rib Lake. It then turned onto Hwy 102 and headed toward Spirit Lake and the witness stopped following. A night shift deputy made contact with Tingley and he stated he swerved to miss a deer and knew he hit something, but did not stop to see what it was. Both vehicles received functional damage. Tingley was cited for hit and run of an unattended vehicle.

Car vs. deer

On October 6 at 7:24 p.m., a vehicle operated by David Poehnelt, 66, of Marshfield, struck a deer while traveling southbound on Hwy 13 in the town of Little Black. The vehicle received functional damage.


On September 28 at 10:29 a.m., a motorcycle operated by Eugene Perrot, 66, of Antigo, struck a deer while traveling northbound on CTH M in the town of Grover. The motorcycle slid on its left side. The occupants including the driver and passenger, Kathy De Grave, 58, of Antigo, were transported first by passenger vehicle then by EMS and lastly by air to Aspirus Wausau Hospital with suspected serious injuries.
